Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading Pop-up Neighborhood Event at SuperMatt Laundromat
On December 14, 2019, the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading and The Laundry Project teamed up to hold a #PopUpNeighbor event at SuperMatt Laundromat/Lavandería in Port Charlotte. Pop-Up Neighbor events are unexpected opportunities where caring volunteers make real connections with individuals and families while alleviating the cost of laundry. For three hours, everyone who walked into the laundromat had his or her laundry fees paid, thanks to the generosity of The Patterson Foundation. During the day, there were lots of hugs, and smiles shared with 33 families while 287 loads of laundry were washed. Activites were provided for the children and they all took free books home.
With Neighbor Helping Neighbor Blessings Abound
“This is a true blessing.”
“I feel like I won the lottery today.”
“This means a lot, more than you even know.”
“Bless you for blessing us like this.”
“It feels like an honest-to-God miracle!”
What triggered these comments? Would you be surprised if I said laundry?
