WHAT DRIVES OUR WORK

OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

United Way of Charlotte County’s goal is to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of community problems.

Living United means being a part of the change.

BASIC NEEDS

Individuals must have a foundation of basic needs in the present in order to have any expectation for a solid future. In the realm of BASIC NEEDS, United Way of Charlotte County is focused on addressing the following needs:

  • food
  • childcare
  • housing
  • financial assistance

EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS

United Way of Charlotte County has always had a passion for the educational success of our youth. Through our 2022 planning meetings, these gaps were highlighted:

  • parent engagement of all ages
  • trauma-informed programs
  • school-readiness
  • successful transitions

FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT

In order for individuals and families to become self-sufficient, United Way of Charlotte County supports programs that empower our residents financially. Areas of focus include:

  • increased employability
  • asset accumulation and sustainment

SENIORS

Over 40% of Charlotte County's population is aged 65 or over, and boasts the 2nd highest median age of any county in the U.S. A focus on senior issues is greatly needed. United Way of Charlotte County will begin its focus on the following:

  • reducing barriers that isolate seniors from their peers and community

COMMUNICATION & NAVIGATION

Often times, the systems that are in place to help those in need are difficult to access. United Way of Charlotte County has seen tremendous results from navigation programs and looks forward to funding additional programs that offer communication and navigation for at-risk residents.

Additionally, as UWCC's mission is to mobilize the power of our community to break the cycle of poverty, increased volunteer mobilization is crucial to driving true change in Charlotte County.

  • prioritizing time, talent, and treasure for communication, navigation, and volunteer efforts
