Building Charlotte County- Together

by Angie Matthiessen, Chief Executive Officer  – United Way of Charlotte County

Florida Power & Light (FPL) continues to demonstrate what it means to be more than just a utility provider—it is a true partner in building a stronger, more resilient community. Through its ongoing support of United Way Charlotte County (UWCC), year over year Florida Power & Light has played a vital role in advancing programs that directly impact local families, especially during times of greatest need.

As a corporate sponsor, FPL’s commitment goes beyond financial contributions. The company has consistently shown up for Charlotte County, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters.

When our community faces challenges, FPL is there—not only restoring power but helping restore stability, hope, and connection. That kind of reliability and dedication is what defines a meaningful community partner.

This year marks FPL’s third time serving as a match sponsor for the Giving Challenge, a 24-hour online fundraising event taking place noon to noon on April 15th-16th that unites individuals, businesses, and organizations in support of local nonprofits.

The Giving Challenge creates an opportunity for every donation to go further, maximizing impact through matching funds and inspiring collective generosity across the region. This year when donations are made to the Giving Challenge, a portion of proceeds will be going toward The Children’s Enrichment Fund.

Through the Children's Enrichment Fund, qualifying families can receive up to $300 per child each year to cover the cost of extracurricular activities, ensuring that every child has the chance to explore their passions, thrive, and contribute to a stronger community future.

FPL’s involvement in the Giving Challenge reflects a deeper alignment with the mission of UWCC—to mobilize the power of our community so all can thrive. By stepping in as a match sponsor, FPL is helping amplify the generosity of donors.

“Serving as immediate past president of United Way Charlotte County has been a meaningful opportunity to work alongside partners who are truly making a difference. FPL is proud to support United Way’s mission and remains a committed community partner in Charlotte County,” said Florida Power & Light, External Affairs Manager Charlotte Miller.

That commitment is rooted in a shared vision for a stronger future. FPL understands that thriving communities are built through collaboration, compassion, and consistent investment in people.

“The United Way Charlotte County plays a critical role in strengthening our community providing resources to those who need it most. We believe in powering strong communities and our continued support of United Way reflects our shared commitment to making Charlotte County a better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Florida Power & Light, Senior Community Relations Specialist, Jennifer Huber.

As the Giving Challenge approaches, the partnership between FPL and UWCC serves as a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when businesses and nonprofits work together.

Their shared efforts not only address immediate needs but also lay the groundwork for long-term impact.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the Giving Challenge by supporting the causes that matter most to them. With partners like FPL leading the way, every contribution becomes part of something bigger—a collective investment in the future of Charlotte County.

This is our moment as a community to come together. During the Giving Challenge, every donation makes a difference—and thanks to matching sponsors like Florida Power & Light, your impact goes even further. Invest in our children, our families, and our future.
