Inspiring women. Strengthening families.
By Angie Matthiessen, Chief Executive Officer
What if one simple “yes” could connect you to purpose, community, and meaningful impact?
I’ve watched it happen again and again. Women walk into a Women United event unsure of what to expect—and leave feeling connected, energized, and ready to make a difference.
That transformation is what makes Women United so powerful.
At its heart, Women United brings women together to strengthen families and create change right here in our community. In Charlotte County, that looks like women from all walks of life—professionals, caregivers, entrepreneurs, and everyday changemakers—showing up with a shared desire to do good. Often, multiple generations stand side by side.
And when they do, impact follows.
Through Women United, we support education, advance financial stability and workforce readiness, and walk alongside ALICE families as they build stronger futures. This work is visible, local, and life-changing for women and children in our community.
But what keeps women coming back isn’t just what we do—it’s how it feels to be part of it.
It’s the conversations that matter. The moments of serving side-by-side. The relationships that form when women gather with purpose. In those spaces, something shifts—confidence grows, ideas take shape, and connection turns into action.
Women United is also a place for personal growth. It’s where you deepen your understanding of community needs, discover how your strengths can make a difference, and find your voice alongside others doing the same.
And perhaps most importantly, it’s accessible.
You don’t need a title, a certain background, or a perfectly open schedule. You simply need the willingness to show up.
With the support of United Way Charlotte County and strong community partnerships, Women United continues to create meaningful, measurable change—and there is always room for one more at the table. What you gain is a sense of purpose, authentic connection, and the opportunity to be part of something that truly matters.
At a recent wellness event, one woman shared, “I used the journal questions from a session to map out small steps toward a new goal.”
If you’ve been looking for a place to connect, grow, and give back—this is your invitation.
Say yes. Join us. Be part of the change.
One of the most meaningful ways to get involved right now is our upcoming Sisters Sharing Soup event in May—a hands-on opportunity to cook, serve, and connect while directly supporting women and families in our community. Whether you love being in the kitchen or simply want to lend a hand, there’s a place for you. It’s a simple act that brings comfort, connection, and care—and I hope you’ll join us.
Looking for something more casual? Join us for our Move It Mixer in June. It’s a chance to step away from the busyness of everyday life, meet incredible women, and enjoy being part of a welcoming, supportive community. Come with a friend or on your own—you’ll leave feeling energized and connected.
