An A-rated district and a community investing in its students

There's something special about this time of year in Charlotte County. The start of a new school year brings renewed hope and excitement for students, parents, and educators alike.
That feeling was on full display at the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce's New Teacher Breakfast last week, where the room buzzed with anticipation and a shared belief that this school year is going to be something special.
The room was filled with energy as community leaders, educators, and business partners gathered to welcome the newest members of our school family. It was impossible not to feel inspired by the enthusiasm of the teachers preparing to make a difference in classrooms across our county.
There was a noticeable sense of pride when Superintendent Mark Vianello announced that Charlotte County Public Schools had earned an A rating for the first time in 15 years. Even more impressive, our district now ranks 21st among Florida's 67 school districts.
Those achievements represent thousands of hours of hard work by students, teachers, staff, families, and community partners working toward a common goal.
The inspiration continued when Teacher of the Year Becki Mendelsohn took the stage. Her message was simple but powerful. She reminded the new teachers that they are the difference makers. They are the reason students learn, grow, and succeed. Her remarks served as a heartfelt reminder that behind every student success story is an educator who took the time to encourage, inspire, and believe in a child.
One story shared by a member of our team perfectly captured the spirit of the morning. A new teacher joining Neil Armstrong Elementary School was absolutely beaming with excitement about the year ahead. She and her family live in Port Charlotte, and she shared how important it was for her to teach in the community she calls home. Even more meaningful, her two young children will attend schools right here in Charlotte County. She spoke with pride about investing in the same schools that will help shape her own children's future.
That level of commitment speaks volumes about the educators choosing to build their lives and careers here.
As families prepare for back-to-school season, our community once again stepped up in a big way.
The response to the school supply drive for Peace River Elementary was incredible. Community members donated loads and loads of school supplies to help ensure students start the year with the tools they need to succeed. Backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, and other essentials poured in from generous individuals throughout Charlotte County.
Local businesses also answered the call, with Lake Michigan Credit Union, HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital, Gasparilla Inn, and Suncoast Title One making significant contributions.
Together, their generosity reflects what makes Charlotte County such a special place to live: a community that consistently invests in its children and believes every student deserves a strong start.
As the first school bells begin to ring, we have much to celebrate. We have an A-rated school district, exceptional educators, engaged families, generous community partners, and a growing commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Those accomplishments aren't just reasons to celebrate this school year—they're reminders of who we are as a community and what we can accomplish when we invest in our children together.
