The United Way Tocqueville Society was formed in March 1984. The society is named after renowned French political philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville who admired three elements in North American society: liberty, equality and the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. The members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society are a special group of individuals who partner with us to make this a strong and healthy community. Through their compassion and philanthropy, these individuals demonstrate exceptional generosity and leadership, and provide the momentum for lasting change in Charlotte County. To be part of the United Way of Charlotte County Tocqueville Society, our contributors make exceptional gifts of $10,000 or more.

Dictionaries define a “pacesetter” as an organization that is the most progressive or successful and serves as a model to be imitated.  These are companies or individuals that set the pace for the United Way of Charlotte County campaign goal. Pacesetters are invited to a VIP Reception and given special recognition at the Campaign Kickoff. Corporate Donors of $1,000 or more and individuals of $500 all qualify as a pacesetter.
